With the recent shows that took place in Austria and Hungary, photographer Krisztina Balázs (@szemhal on Instagram) took a whole series of the Soft Riot performance in Budapest at the venue Off Kultur, as part of the Országos Gothic Találkozó 2025 mini-festival put on by local promoter Gothic Disorder Productions. It was a fun show and the photos at least capture some of the energy of this performance and the performances of the other artists on the same night. You can view those photos below.

Now into the autumn season of this year, there’s only a few Soft Riot live performances for the rest of 2025. Overall it’s been a quieter year for shows, mainly due to focussing on the next album. The recording has been completed and in early November I’ll be travelling to southern France to mix the record with Owen Pratt at Shepardtone Studios. This will be the first album in ten years that will have another mind and a pair of hands on board for — with the previous such collaboration being the 2015 album You Never Know What Might Come Next, which saw a pairing with Owen as well for that record. Owen and I go way back, especially back to the early days of Soft Riot and travelling about Europe with Owen’s previous bands Női Kabát and Uncanny Valley. His production skills have turned some heads in recent years and I’m excited to complete what are nine new tracks with him on board in his remote countryside studio.

From there more live performances will start to ramp up with the next album to be released in spring 2026. More information on the release details will come in due course.

There’s also been a lot of other stuff going on, including some work being put towards some new musical projects, but that’s all that can be given away for now!
