Soft Riot - items packed and ready to go to France

There’s been little hints dropped here and there recently, but a new album is finishing up. Tomorrow I head off to southern France for a week to do the final mixing on the record.

It’s the first album in a while where I’ve brought on a second set of hands and ears (not to mention talent!) to the mixing sessions, and that being with production extraordinaire Owen Pratt of Shepardtone who has been a good friend for a while. Back in the early days of Soft Riot I’d been on the roads through Europe a few times playing shows with his previous bands Noi Kabát and Uncanny Valley.

We’ll be digging deep into it in his studio in the French countryside.

I’ve been doing all the prep work and ready to go. I can be very critical of the stuff I put out, and feel there’s always some stuff I could have done a lot better from record to record but these latest tracks I feel far more stoked about. I took a break from writing for almost a year and half and waited for the next wave of creativity and it just came from some other place. Some songs sort of wrote themselves and I can actually listen to them and think they’re actually pretty good.

So all packed up and ready to go here. Early flight tomorrow. Should be a nice break from things and just jump into the music.
