Overview

The long-running Croatian label Tonal Shifts welcomes Soft Riot to its roster for a tiny exclusive new offline Raw File edition in the wake of Soft Riot’s forthcoming album, Crux, to be released on vinyl by Minimalkombinat and on CD/digitally by Possession Records. A sister EP, Alter, is also scheduled for release on CD by Possession Records.

This edition of Tonal ShiftsRaw File will be a micro-edition 5” CD-R single of 25 copies, containing previously unreleased premix versions of two songs from the mentioned album. These include a rough mix/demo version of the track “Moving Out Of The Black” that opens up Crux as well as an alternate demo version of the album’s second track, “Everything Sounds The Same”, with the lead vocals being done by Tonal Shifts label head — as well as a solo synth artist in his own right — Iv/An. These track versions were then mastered by Miroslav Piškulić.

The Raw File edition comes in a specially designed 7” sized 8-page booklet, with a cover painting kindly provided by young artist Silva Jambrešić. and the layout and design being done by Tonal Shifts under the name Nieuw NDG. The booklet contains bespoke artwork for the release, as was as including an essay written by JJD of Soft Riot regarding the origins of the Soft Riot name back in the 2000s.

With the announcement of this release, a bespoke promotional video was created by Tonal Shifts for this version of “Moving Out Of The Black”, using footage from the 1979 film Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky.

To be released later in spring 2026, further information on this Raw File edition will come soon, including previews and ordering information.
