The Book Of Very Very Bad Things is an American podcast hosted by journalist and musician Peter Tanski, which talks with musicians, writers and artists in what are often long form, “fly on the wall” conversational interviews. It’s a podcast I had been familiar with for a while, and one that I’ve noted in its uniqueness in how interviews are conducted in a very, meandering, casual manner — rather than the more standard “question and answer” interview format.
Split into two parts, this conversation discusses elements of the Soft Riot chronological trajectory, the new album No. as well as my tenure in Radio Berlin. The interview from there then threads through any given number of topics, often forking off into new directions in quick succession. It was conducted in the early hours of the morning (UK Time) after I had taken a mid-evening nap, so the interview has bit more of a fractured, surreal feel than if conducted during the waking hours.
There’s a lot of references to bands from the 90s underground North American punk/hardcore scene throughout the conversation, as well as touching on the creative writing process, re-locating to the UK from Canada, developing a sound as well as many other smaller topics.
Note: there’s a few gaps in the interview due to some brief technical glitches.
