As 2013 Comes To An End

13 December 2013

Soft Riot : Live at RyanWith this year coming to an end it seems fitting to tie up all of the news into one possible final post for this year.

Most of this fall, aside from one really great and fantastic show for Waveform in Moscow, has been focused on remix work which will see the light of day in early 2014! The track “Queen of Swoons” was re-worked for Desire Records artist TSTI which will be released on a double vinyl LP in the new year on the Desire label. Following that the track “Cleo” by Keluar has been remixed for a CD release, again on Desire, in the spring as well.

Legendary experimental industrial/post-punk band Attrition put out the offer to remix their track “One Horse Rider” from their recently released Unraveller of Angels LP and this will be released on a One Horse Rider EP (containing various remixes) in January 2014. More news on that to come.

And finally, as far a remixes go, the opportunity to remix for 4AD/Friends recording artists Celebration lead to a reworking of their track “Razor’s Edge” which is from a forthcoming album of theirs to be released in mid-2014. This was particularly exciting project as I’ve been a long time fan of not only Celebration but their previous bands Love Life, Jaks, etc.

Two outtakes from Fiction Prediction were given a bit of a dusting up in the studio, to be released as a digital-only release on the US label Everything Is Chemical in the coming months.

With all of this completed new material is starting to come to life in the studio with hopes to put these tracks on a new release, and also to play them out on the road. The first show of 2014 is in Newcastle UK on the 24th of January at Head Of Steam. Check the Live Events page for more information.

Soft Riot will again be heading out with friends N?i Kabát for a little over a week’s worth of dates in late February and early March, with shows in France, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and Italy. Soft Riot will also be playing the Gothic Pogo Festival in June that takes place in Leipzig. More details on these dates to come next month after the holiday season blows over.

A promo video for the track “Your Own Private Underworld” by director/cinematographer Mikko Makela should be up and ready next month.

Finally, one of Soft Riot‘s “weirder” songs, “I Wanna Lay Down NXT 2 U” is featured on this mix for Japanese artist Sapphire Slows (Kinuko Hiramatsu) for Sense Magazine. This mix includes tracks by YOUTH CODE, Laurel Halo and more…
